Upon arrival at the Chandigarh Airport/Railway station we begin our scenic drive towards Keylong via Manali. Our journey takes us through the picturesque Solang Valley, followed by a thrilling passage through the Atal Tunnel – the world’s highest highway tunnel situated above 10,000 feet. As we emerge from the tunnel, you’ll notice a striking transformation in the landscape, shifting from lush green forests to the stark, rugged beauty of the Lahaul region.We will take a brief stop at the charming village of Sissu, where you can explore and soak in the views of waterfalls and snow-capped peaks.On arrival Keylong check into the hotel and take some time to freshen up and relax. The rest of the day is free for rest and acclimatization to the high altitude, preparing for the journey ahead.
Day 02 | Keylong - Jispa - Darcha - Shinku La - Padum ( 165 Km 07-08 Hrs )
We begin our journey early from Keylong, setting out towards Padum – the administrative heart of the remote and majestic Zanskar Valley. Our route initially follows the scenic Lahaul Valley along the Manali–Leh Highway, offering mesmerizing views of high-altitude terrain and alpine beauty. After reaching Darcha, we leave the highway and head deeper into the mountains towards Zanskar.En route, we traverse the Shinku La Pass, perched at an altitude of over 5,000 metres, where panoramic vistas of snow-clad peaks and dramatic Himalayan landscapes unfold. The descent into Zanskar is equally awe-inspiring, with verdant valleys and towering cliffs accompanying us on the way to Padum.We arrive in Padum by evening. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Padum.
Day 03 | Padum - Shila Waterfall - Karsha Gompa - Stongdey Monastery - Padum ( 52 Km 04-05 Hrs )
Today is a relaxed day dedicated to soaking in the breathtaking beauty and cultural richness of Zanskar Valley. We begin with a visit to the serene Shila Waterfall, a rare natural wonder in the otherwise stark and dramatic landscapes of Ladakh and Zanskar. The waterfall offers a peaceful start to the day, surrounded by rugged cliffs and alpine air.In the latter half of the day, we explore the ancient monasteries that define the spiritual essence of this region. We start with Karsha Gompa, the largest monastery in Zanskar, dramatically perched on a hillside. It offers panoramic views of the valley and houses a well-preserved mummified monk, an intriguing glimpse into Tibetan Buddhist traditions.Next, we head further down the valley to Stongde Monastery, majestically standing atop a hill. From here, witness a mystical sunset that paints the mountain ranges in hues of gold and crimson. The view of the meandering Zanskar River from this vantage point is truly unforgettable.The unique architecture and peaceful ambiance of these monasteries provide a deep cultural immersion into the lives and beliefs of the local people.In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk around Padum market — perfect for picking up local handicrafts or savoring traditional delicacies at one of the cozy cafés.Overnight stay in Padum.
Day 04 | Padum - Sani Lake - Drang Drung Glacier - Pensi La Top - Rangdum Monastery - Padum ( 210 Km 07-08 Hrs )
Today we embark on a spectacular drive along the Padum–Kargil road, venturing into some of the most majestic landscapes that Zanskar has to offer.Just a few minutes outside of Padum lies the sacred Sani Lake, home to a revered statue of Guru Padmasambhava. The tranquil setting of the lake, with its spiritual aura and scenic surroundings, makes for a peaceful start to the day.We then continue towards one of the most breathtaking natural wonders of the region – the Drang Drung Glacier. Stretching over 23 kilometers, this colossal glacier is among the largest in Ladakh and offers a truly awe-inspiring sight that must be experienced to be believed.A short distance from here lies the Pensi La Pass, the gateway between Zanskar and Suru valleys. From the Pensi La Top, take in panoramic views of the twin lakes – Lang Tso and Stat Tso – shimmering amidst snow-capped peaks.Our final stop is the historic Rangdum Monastery, dramatically located on a small hill surrounded by vast, isolated plains. The monastery not only offers insights into Buddhist culture but also serves as a striking contrast to the rugged terrain around.By late afternoon, we begin our return journey to Padum.Overnight stay in Padum.
Day 05 | Padum - Bardan Monastery - Raru Lake - Ichar - Purne ( 68 km 05-06 Hrs )
Today we begin our journey from Padum to Purne, driving through the heart of Zanskar’s remote and rugged terrain, flanked by dramatic mountain landscapes.Our first notable stop is the Bardan Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliffside overlooking the Tsarap River. This ancient 17th-century Gompa, belonging to the Drukpa sect, is a peaceful spot that offers panoramic views and spiritual serenity.We continue onward to the quaint village of Raru, where a short hike leads us to the serene Raru Lake. Surrounded by snow-clad peaks and alpine silence, the lake offers a tranquil and photogenic setting — perfect for a peaceful break in the journey.Before reaching Purne, we make a brief stop at Ichar village, known for its striking Maitreya Buddha statue, standing as a symbol of compassion and timeless peace in the high Himalayas.We reach Purne by evening, a remote and scenic village nestled in the valley — a perfect base for upcoming treks and explorations.Overnight stay in cottages at Purne.
Day 06 | Purne - Phugtal Monastery - Gonbo Rangjon ( 45 Kms Trek ( 05 -06 Hrs.)
With an early start, we set off on a trek to the remote and legendary Phugtal Monastery, one of the most iconic and isolated monasteries in the entire Himalayan region. Nestled dramatically into a cliffside and partially built into a massive cave, Phugtal is a spiritual marvel that feels frozen in time.The 1.5-hour hike follows the banks of the turquoise-hued Tsarap River, winding through rugged terrain, narrow paths, and stunning gorges. As we round a bend, the breathtaking sight of Phugtal Monastery comes into view—seemingly clinging to the cliff, overlooking the river valley. The serenity, history, and spiritual energy of this sacred place offer a truly unforgettable experience.After exploring the monastery, we hike back to Purne by midday and begin a scenic drive towards Gonbo Rangjon. This short journey is filled with stunning views of high Himalayan peaks and valleys, giving you time to soak in the raw beauty of Zanskar.As we approach Kuriakh, the majestic Gonbo Rangjon mountain looms into view—an awe-inspiring monolith believed to be sacred. We drive closer and set up camp at its foothills, surrounded by dramatic rock faces and untouched wilderness. The remote setting and clear skies make this an ideal spot for stargazing, with the Milky Way often clearly visible overhead.Overnight in tents at the base of Gonbo Rangjon.
Day 07 | Gonbo Rangjon - Shinku La - Darcha - Manali ( 150 kms 05 -06 Hrs.)
This morning after breakfast,Check out and drive towards Manali, retracing our route through the awe-inspiring landscapes of Zanskar and Lahaul. We once again cross the magnificent Shinku La Pass, offering one last look at the high-altitude beauty of this remote region. The journey continues through Darcha and Jispa, where the familiar mountain vistas remind us of the adventure we’ve just completed,This drive not only marks the return to civilization but also provides a peaceful opportunity to reflect on the unforgettable experiences—from ancient monasteries and sacred lakes to glacier views and starry Skies.Afternoon check into the Manali hotel,After freshen up visit Hadimba Devi Temple,Old Manali Rock Castle,Vashisht Temple,Mall Road and later return to the hotel overnight stay.
